To say Alice Jones has been around the Oxford School District a long time is an understatement. Ms. Jones has 32 years with the district before she started her current assignment as a bus driver. She started out as a Teachers Assistant first at Bramlett then Oxford Elementary then the Learning Center then the Middle School then Central Elementary then Oxford Elementary again. Her last five years was as a secretary at the Middle School. Ms. Jones has been a driver for bus 2 since January. Mr. Tillman, the former driver of the route, graduated from Ole Miss in December and Ms. Jones took over his route. Shortly after taking over the route she asked me about doing something for the kids. Ms. Jones said she didn’t want to just hand out bus referrals if the students misbehaved, but wanted to reward them for sustaining excellent behavior. She designed and implemented the program. Ms. Jones overriding concern is with fairness. What she does for one student she wants to do for all of them. Ms. Jones set the rules, enforces them and expects (and gets) results. She has brought classroom experience to the bus and we are glad to have her. It has been a pleasure to work with a professional like Ms. Jones. Her innovation and enthusiasm is contagious and her love of the students genuine. It is with pleasure to have her as the transportation employee of the week.
