Employee of the Year 2007
Oxford High School
Marlon Bell, a graduate of Alcorn State University, has worked in the Oxford School District for four years, two years as a teacher and two years as the Oxford High School Retention Officer. Additionally, he serves as a basketball coach.
Marlon expects nothing but the best from students, and he works tirelessly with students to keep them in school by monitoring grades, behavior, and attendance. He also maintains contact with the students' parents, teachers, coaches, and administrators. When needed, he arranges for students to take the GED or ACT exams, and often provides transportation to/from the testing site.
Marlon collaborates with several local organizations - Big Brother/Big Sister, Boys and Girls Club, and Ole Miss, and works as a liaison between community colleges, the School of Applied Technology, and the Oxford School District. He coordinated an after school tutoring program and worked with the OHS PTO to form a student mentoring program.
