Common Lit
CommonLit was created by a fellow Mississippi educator, Michelle
Brown. CommonLit is not just for struggling readers or advanced
readers but for all students. It helps teachers personalize instruction so that they can better address the unique needs of individual students.
CommonLit delivers high-quality, free instructional materials to
support literacy development for students in grades 3-12. This online
tool can help students make measurable gains in reading and writing.
The main focus is to help students develop the higher-order reading
and writing skills that are so essential for college-crafting original
arguments, supporting claims with evidence, and making comparisons.
Brick Township Public Schools in New Jersey used CommonLit in
weekly instruction, the percent of students who were meeting or
exceeding expectations in grade 9 soared to 22% over the state average.
