Employee of the Year 2023

O.S.D. Employee of the Year

Shara Minton

Shara Minton

Social Studies Teacher
Oxford Middle School

“I am so shocked but very honored by this award. I never in a million years thought anything like this would happen to me. I would be nothing without all of the faculty and staff at OMS, my administrators, and my instructional coach - they have helped me so much this year in finding new footing back in the classroom and in a new subject. A year ago I started realizing how much I missed working with students and getting to help them make it through one of the most awkward years of their lives, but I could have never imagined returning to the classroom would put me here. Thank you to everyone!”

The Oxford School District (OSD) is proud to recognize OMS teacher Shara Minton as our District Employee of the Year for 2023. Mrs. Minton helps make our district a great place to work and learn.

Here’s what Mrs. Minton’s peers had to say about her:

“Shara Minton is committed to providing a rigorous and engaging education for all of her students. She supports her students in the classroom each day, but she also supports them outside of the classroom by attending after-school events, sending encouraging messages home to parents, and even joining them on stage at events like the OMS stage plays. She is always willing to lend a hand to help her fellow teachers. She tries hard to make OMS a great place to work by organizing social activities, co-chairing United Way efforts, and serving as one of our faculty council representatives.”

“I’ve been in the classroom for 27 years, and I have seen many teachers that are good at their jobs. Shara Minton eclipses them all. She cares about the quality of what she teaches, and the level of excitement she brings to her classroom and her students is unmatched. She is involved in helping with student extracurriculars, such as helping out with the middle school play (as one example). She has also taken a lot of the organization of faculty activities – the activities that help us be more than people who are just coworkers – and has helped make OMS a home for teachers. She’s the teacher that I aspire to be for my students.”

“Mrs. Minton is one of those teachers you come across once in a great while. She is popular amongst the students and staff. Everyone loves her because she is kind, caring and fun! She is always willing to lend a hand and help take care of anything, from planning staff potlucks to getting on the dance floor at the OMS winter dance. It has been a pleasure getting to know her, and to see her as Employee of the Year would put the cherry on top!”

“Shara didn't limit herself just to her time at school; she shows her compassion for education by supporting students at their extracurricular activities and creating inventive ways to support other teachers and employees in her building as well. She saw that there was a need and took on the task by bridging the gap. All of this represents Mr. Roberson's motto for OSD, Love Your People (LYP).”

“Shara gives 110% on everything she does and it shows. She is loved by not only her students but her peers as well. She is an asset to this district, inside the classroom and out. She is what helps make this district what it is. We are so lucky to have Shara in the Oxford School District.”

“Reading what Shara Minton’s colleagues had to say about her was honestly inspiring. To know that she returned to the classroom this year and not only made a hugely positive impact in her own classroom but also across the entire school is incredible! Oxford Middle School and Oxford School District are extremely lucky to have her as an employee. Shara’s excitement and love for teaching is apparent based off of what her coworkers said about her. She is very deserving of this title!”

Congratulations, Mrs. Minton! You’re a great representative of the #ChargerNation.
