Cynthia Ferguson
Oxford High School
Journalism Teacher
In her third year as the adviser for Oxford High School's newspaper, yearbook and literary magazine, Cynthia Ferguson has positive things to say about the experience. "You get to see the results of your work every month with the newspaper and every year with the yearbook," Ferguson said. "I'm (also) seeing students go on to the next level."
Ferguson, who worked for the Oxford Eagle for 15 years in advertising and graphic design, has worked for the Oxford School District for 13 years, 10 of them in the special education program. When former newspaper adviser Beth Fitts retired in 2006, Ferguson eagerly applied for the job. In order to qualify, Ferguson certified in secondary English education. "I studied a lot, read a lot and asked a lot of people a lot of questions to try to prepare for stepping into a program where a lot of students knew a lot more than I know," Ferguson said, "And they have taught me well."
Bill Hovious, Principal
“Everywhere I go I tell people I have the best job in the school, and it's true. The students are great; the newspaper and yearbook staffs are amazing; the support from my fellow teachers and from the administration is incredible. It makes coming to school every day so easy.”
