Algebra II Teacher
Oxford High School
“It is an honor to be chosen as Employee of the Week by my co-workers. You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with, and I am surrounded by dedicated teachers and staff at Oxford High School.”
The Oxford School District is proud to recognize Oxford High School teacher Karyn Fortenberry as our Employee of the Week. Mrs. Fortenberry helps make our district a great place to work and learn.
Here’s what Oxford High School has to say about Mrs. Fortenberry:
“Karyn has been a rock in the math department for years. She not only teaches her students in the classroom; she also helps them in Life. I can’t tell you the number of kids I have seen Mrs. Fortenberry help over the years. I’ve seen her working early and late to explain math concepts to her current (and often, former) students. I’ve seen her encourage a kid who wants to drop out, comfort a confused or sad teenager, listen and empathize with colleagues — and in all scenarios — doing whatever she can do to make life better for the person asking her for help. She goes above and beyond day in and day out. For the past 13 years we have worked together, I have never seen her say ‘no’ to a colleague or student. I have always admired, as well, that she gives you her honest opinion when asked. So many people tell you what they think you want to hear. Karyn tells you what you NEED to hear — and it’s always with the kid’s and colleague’s best interest in mind. We are so lucky to have her, and she is long overdue for the honor of Employee of the Week.” –Dr. Barbara Lowe
“Karyn Fortenberry has been a tremendous asset to our SPED students — especially those who struggle with Algebra 2 — providing them opportunity to learn and grow. She respects each student’s specific needs and accommodates their disability to maintain an environment and space that promotes their success. She embraces these students as capable and as much a part of her class as their non-disabled peers.”
“Karyn wants each of her students to be successful. She has very high expectations, yet, goes above and beyond to help her students reach success.”
“Karyn does an amazing job of meeting her students where they are and helping them be the best math students they can be.”
“Karen does an awesome job at providing support for all of her students. She does an exceptional job at helping those who are struggling.”
“Mrs. Fortenberry always goes above and beyond to ensure the success of every student in her algebra 2 classes. She has plans and procedures in place to accommodate all levels of learners.”
Congratulations, Mrs. Fortenberry! You’re a great representative of the #ChargerNation.
