Enrollment Numbers Up in District
Oxford, Mississippi (August 24, 2021) — The Oxford School District reports an enrollment increase of 4.5% for the 2021-2022 school year. The back-to-school enrollment numbers shared at the August board meeting, reported 4,726 students, up from 4,522 in 2020-2021. Typically, school districts see late registrations happening during the first two weeks of school, and Oxford is no different. The district’s registration department enrolled over 1,210 students during the first two weeks of August. Nearly 100 students were denied enrollment because they did not meet residency requirements.
“If we continue to have similar growth over the next five years, the district will be nearing enrollment of 6,000 students,” said Dr. SuzAnne Liddell, Chief of Accountability & Accreditation. Enrollment projections are the building blocks of effective school district planning for capital improvements, building expansions, preparation for bonds and levies, and special programming. The OSD receives an annual report of enrollment projections provided by Slaughter & Associates that is based on yearly birth rates.
“It’s encouraging to see our enrollment numbers up during a time of uncertainty with in-person learning and the threat of virtual learning hanging in the balance. We live in a highly desirable city and we provide an exemplary public school education. Parents have options for the education of their children, and we appreciate the trust that parents place in the Oxford School District.”
