OSD Celebrates 10 Years of A-Rating and Tremendous Academic Growth
Oxford, Mississippi (September 17, 2024) — The Oxford School District is proud to announce the latest district and school accountability results, reflecting significant academic improvements and a continued commitment to student success. These results highlight the exceptional efforts of students, teachers, and staff over the past several years.
Continued Excellence in Academic Achievement
The Oxford School District continues to be an A-rated district for the 10th consecutive year, a remarkable achievement the district has proudly maintained since the current state accountability model was established. This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication of the district’s teachers, administrators, and support staff, as well as the resilience and hard work of its students. A focus on continuous improvement has driven these accomplishments, and district leaders believe that even greater success lies ahead.
Significant Gains Since the Pandemic
Since 2021, the Oxford School District has seen major gains across all areas of academic proficiency:
- ELA proficiency has increased by 12%, rising from 50.1% to 62.1%.
- Math proficiency has grown by 13.7%, jumping from 55.7% to 69.4%.
- Science proficiency has improved by 7.1%, moving from 66.2% to 73.3%.
- History proficiency has increased by an outstanding 27.1%, surging from 58.4% to 85.5%.
Growth in Student Achievement
In addition to these gains, the district has seen continuous improvement in student growth. Since 2022:
- ELA growth has improved by 2.4%.
- Math growth has increased by 6.9%.
- Growth among students in the lowest 25% in math has risen by 5.1%.
Rising Accountability Scores
The district’s overall accountability score has increased each year since the pandemic, reflecting sustained progress among students. In 2022, the district earned 701 points, which increased to 714 points in 2023. This year, the score has risen again to 732 points – the second-highest point total in the district’s history, behind only the 745 points achieved in 2016.
Overcoming Challenges Together
These gains have been made while addressing the diverse needs of the district’s student population, including a 28.1% poverty rate and an increasing number of students receiving specialized services. The district’s ability to maintain an A rating for 10 consecutive years, improve student performance, and consistently raise accountability scores highlights the strength of its continuous improvement efforts.

District leaders attribute this success to a relentless focus on continuous improvement, from refining instructional strategies to implementing targeted interventions from our teachers. Teachers have been empowered with tools and systems to better meet the needs of every student, while a collaborative environment has been fostered from the classroom all the way to district leadership. Excellence remains the expectation, and every student’s success is the district’s top priority.
