Oxford, Mississippi (October 20, 2021) — In April of 2021, the Mississippi Board of Education (SBE) named one of only 10 semifinalists statewide to serve as the next SBE junior student representative and Oxford High School student, Keerthin Karthikeyan, was among them. Karthikeyan was one of the 10 who made it to the semifinal round of the process to select the next SBE junior student representative for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year.

Although Karthikeyan was not selected in the rigorous application process for the state board of education, he will serve as a student advisor at the MDE on the Student Advisory Council. Council members will meet with the State Superintendent of Education throughout the 2021-2022 school year to offer input and suggestions on issues that are important to the students of Mississippi. Karthikeyan is joining five other OHS students on the council, Ria Contractor, Avery Langely, Beckham McCord, Hattie Busby, and Celie Rayburn.

Karthikeyan is an 11th grader at Oxford High School.
