Three Oxford Chargers Sign Division I

Oxford, Mississippi (December 16, 2020) — Three Oxford Charger football players signed early letters of intent to play with Division I colleges.

Jahmal Pegues - Jahmal signed with Jacksonville State University. During Jahmal’s two years starting on the Charger offensive line, he helped pave the way for 1,000-yard rusher John Meagher in 2019 and 950-yard rusher Omar Howell in 2020. In the 2020 North Half Championship Game, Jahmal and the offensive line helped the Chargers rush for over 300 yards for the first team in nearly 5 seasons. Jahmal was named to the 1st Team All-Region 1-6A team in 2019 and 2020. In 2020, Jahmal was selected to represent Mississippi in the annual Mississippi Alabama All-Star Game.

Tristan Shorter - Tristan signed with Arkansas State University. As a three year starter for the Chargers, Tristan recorded 206 total tackles, 4 sacks, had 7 interceptions, 9 fumble recoveries, blocked 4 punts, and scored 6 defensive touchdowns. Tristan was named first-team All-Region 1-6A in 2019 and named the overall Region 1-6A MVP in 2020. Tristan was selected in 2020 to represent Mississippi in the annual Mississippi Alabama All-Star Game. Tristan also served as a member of the OHS Football Leadership Council for two seasons.

Jack Tannehill - Jack signed with the University of Southern Mississippi. During Jack’s career at OHS, he made 43/57 field goals and 132/133 PATs for a school-record 261 kicking points. Jack also averaged over 39 yards per punt during his Charger career and as a senior had 59% of his kickoffs go for touchbacks. Jack was named 1st team All-Region 1-6A in 2018 and named the Region 1-6A Special Teams MVP in 2019 and 2020. Jack was selected in 2020 to represent Mississippi in the annual Mississippi Alabama All-Star Game. Jack served as a member of the OHS Football Leadership Council in 2019 and 2020 and as a team captain in 2020.
