Ten Chargers Committed to Play in Fall 2020
Oxford, Mississippi (February 5, 2020) — With standing room only, ten Oxford Chargers signed letters of intent to play on the collegiate level in football, boys basketball and girls basketball.
Football:
Clay Cromwell – Clay is signing today with the United States Naval Academy. During his career with the Chargers, Clay caught 4 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown, had 5 sacks, 37 total tackles. In 2019 Clay was named a member of the All Region 1-6A 1st Team. Clay is joined today by his parents Doug and Mylene Cromwell, his brother Cole Cromwell, and supporters Coach Sam McCorkle, CW Campbell, Coach Chris Patton, Mike Martin, Dr. Ed Field, and Justin Ware.
Javian Gipson-Holmes – Javian is continuing his football career at Northeast Mississippi Community College. During Javian’s Oxford career, he tallied 5 interceptions, 20 pass deflections, and 93 tackles. In 2019 Javian was named a member of the All Region 1-6A 2nd Team. Javian served as a team captain for the Chargers during the 2019 season. Javian is joined today by his mom Tricia Gipson, dad Freddie Holmes, sister Santerrica Clay, and brothers AJ and Aundrel Turner.
John Meagher – John is signing today with the United States Naval Academy. John’s career was highlighted by 3742 passing yards, 35 touchdown passes, 1729 rushing yards, and 21 rushing touchdowns. John was named to the All Region 1-6A 1st team in 2018, and in 2019, was named the Region 1-6A Offensive Co-MVP. John served as a team captain during both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. John is joined today by his parents Pat and Keri Meagher and his sisters Ann Kate and Mary Cile.
Scott Norphlet – Scott is continuing his football career at Northeast Mississippi Community College. During Scott’s career with the Chargers he totaled 6 interceptions,14 pass deflections, and 4 blocked kicks. Scott totaled 157 career tackles, including 116 during the 2019 season. In 2019, Scott was named to the All Region 1-6A 1st Team. Scott is joined today by his mom Geanjria Norphlet, step dad Tex Wallace, Uncle Jovon Hayes, and girlfriend Desiree Lewis.
Byron “Tank” Pearson – Tank is signing today with Northwest Mississippi Community College. Tank totalled a school record 15 interceptions, along with 47 pass deflections. Tank also accumulated a school record 1566 return yards during his career and was named to the 6A All State 1st Team as a returner in 2018. Tank was named to the All Region 1-6A 1st Team in both 2018 and 22019 and the 6A All State 2nd Team in 2019. Tank is joined today by his mom Angela Pearson.
Rontavious “Dude” Person – Dude is signing today with Northwest Mississippi Community College. As a three year starter for the chargers, Dude totalled 298 tackles and 23 tackles for loss. He also deflected 23 passes, had 3 interceptions, and 3 fumble recoveries. Dude was named to the All Region 1-6A Honorable Mention Team in 2017 and to the All Region 1-6A 1st Team in both 2018 and 2019. Dude served as a team captain during the 2019 season. Dude is joined today by his mom TaMekia Kimmons, his dad Ronnie Person, his grandmothers Martha and Barbara, and his sister America.
AJ Toliver – AJ is continuing his football career with Northwest Mississippi Community College. In his one season with the Chargers, AJ totaled 44 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. AJ was named a member All Region 1-6A 1st Team and the 6A All State 2nd Team. His step mom Dorris Toliver.
Kiyon Williams – Kiyon is signing today with Northwest Mississippi Community College. Kiyon totaled 243 tackles during his Charger career, including 10 sacks and 26 tackles for loss. He accumulated a team leading 134 tackles during the 2019 season. Kiyon was named to the All Region 1-6A 1st Team in both 2018 and 2019 and to the 6A All State 2nd Team in 2019. Kiyon served as a team captain during the 2019 season. Kiyon is joined today by his parents Angelica Wilson and Kenorus Wilson, his sister Akiyah Vaughn, and his girlfriend Asia Luster.
Boys Basketball:
Kylan Blackmon – Kylan is signing today with Northeast Mississippi Community College. During his career with the Chargers Kylan has been named to the 2019 Quaker Classic All-Tournament Team, 2019 Great 8 All-Tournament Team, 2019 Oxford Eagle All-Area Player fo the Year, 2019 North/South Junior All Star Team, and the 2020 Mississippi/Alabama All Star Team. Kylan’s 2019-2020 stat line includes 27.1 points , 7.1 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Kylan is shooting 74% from the free throw line and 34.1% from three point range.
Girls Basketball:
Calya Toles – Caliya is a 6'1" Post player who is signing to play basketball with Itawamba Community College and Coach Robin Porter. Caliya has lettered all 4 years. She was a 2017 Oxford Eagle All Area team member as a Freshman. As a senior, she is averaging 8.7 points per game, 11.4 rebounds per game, 1.2 steals per game, 4.6 blocks per game for the Lady Chargers. Caliya is joined today by her mom Camille Toles, her father Mario Frierson, her sister CC, her brother Demare Frierson, her grandmothers Brenda Toles and Rosetta Campbell, and grandfather, Broadus Toles.
