PhRMA Supports Area STEM Students
Oxford, Mississippi (October 18, 2019) — The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) presented a $2,500 grant for Oxford Elementary School in an effort to recognize schools across the country that are devoting their time and resources to advancing STEM curriculum. STEM career paths are the careers of the future and PhRMA hopes that STEM education in the K-12 setting will lead to students applying those skills in future careers.
“For the last two years, Oxford Elementary has hosted National Inventors Hall of Fame’s STEM program, Camp Invention, which helps students develop the 21st Century Skills: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication, and Collaboration through an engaging and rigorous STEM curriculum. We look forward to implementing new and innovative methods to further STEM education for all children in our school,” said Principal Bigham.
Through the Oxford School District Foundation, Oxford Elementary is able to accept the funds to use for STEM specific needs on campus. The grant was presented to Principal Cindy Bigham by Pete Martinez, Deputy Vice President, State Advocacy, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).
