Oxford, Mississippi (January 14, 2025) — A heartwarming tradition started by former Oxford School District teacher Patricia Jo Jones — who is fondly remembered as “Mrs. P.J.” — continues to flourish today. Mrs. P.J. was a dedicated teacher of the Oxford School District for 26 years.

Around 2016, Mrs. P.J., alongside her team teacher at the time, Mrs. Kimesha Worthy-Bonner, started the special tradition of giving each of their students a Beanie Baby during the holiday season at Della Davidson Elementary School.

“Upon her passing, I decided that I wanted to keep the tradition going,” Mrs. Bonner said.

Mrs. P.J. passed away in April 2022.

“Last year, when I began gifting the Beanie Babies in remembrance of her, I always made sure to tell them why it was such a special gift and how they should treasure it,” Mrs. Bonner explained. “There are so many of my students from previous years that come to me and tell me how they still treasure their Beanie Baby.”

What started as a small gesture of kindness and spreading joy during the holidays has grown into a lasting legacy — one that not only honors Mrs. P.J. but also serves as a reminder of the influence and lasting impact teachers can have on students for years to come.
