Oxford Schools Fundraising in Full Swing
Oxford, Mississippi (October 2, 2020) — For the third year, Oxford's schools ditched the raffle tickets and door-to-door sales. Instead, the Parent-Teacher Organizations ask parents, relatives, businesses, and local citizens to "Check it Chargers" by donating to the school of their choice, so that every dollar can be spent directly on teachers, students, and classroom experiences, not on the overhead of fundraising swag.
One exception this year is at the brand new Central Elementary School. Central Elementary is hosting the fundraiser "Recess Success...Paving the Way to Play" organized by Dr. Meredith Griffin, PTO President. These funds will be used to expedite the purchase of new, modern playground equipment for the campus that is now home to all first and second graders in the district.
In years past, Check It Chargers has raised over $100k for PTO activities. Donations have been down this year, as communities and families have faced uncertainty and financial strain due to Covid-19. "We live in a giving community and one that rallies around our schools. I appreciate the simplicity of Check It Chargers and the generosity of the donors each year. The PTOs do an amazing job of helping our campuses achieve big things throughout the year with these funds," said Superintendent Brian Harvey.
The fundraisers on each campus are wrapping up at the beginning of October, but citizens can still make a tax-deductible donation. Checks should be made out to the PTO at the school of choice: Bramlett Elementary PTO, Central Elementary PTO, Della Davidson PTO, Oxford Intermediate PTO, Oxford Middle PTO, Oxford High PTO. Each school's donation form can be found on the district website at www.oxfordsd.org/CheckItChargers.
