Charger Athletics Hosts National Signing Day 2022
Oxford, Mississippi (February 2, 2022) — Oxford High School hosted National Signing Day on February 2, 2022 for athletes in football, soccer, swim, volleyball, and equestrian.
Swim
Madeline Gaia – Henderson State University
Gaia was 1st Team All-State in her sophomore-senior seasons, medalling in the 200-medley and 400-freestyle relay teams — both of which are standing school records. She was a state finalist in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, and 100 breaststroke, making her one of the most well-rounded swimmers on the Lady Chargers team and leading them to a state runner-up finish in her junior and senior seasons.
She was selected team captain for her senior season. Additionally, Madeleine was voted as the Mississippi Swimming Athlete Representative during her junior season and will continue this position as senior representative this year, where she will represent the state as ambassador at the national convention.
Volleyball
Ainsley Tacke – Bethel University
During Ainsley’s time with the Oxford Charger volleyball program, she recorded 932 kills, 359 digs, 135 blocks, and 113 aces. Ainsley was named the 2021 Oxford Eagle Volleyball Player of the Year. Ainsley also was selected to the All-Region team and the Daily Journal’s All-Area team in her junior and senior years. Ainsley finished her senior year as a 1st Team All-State and a 1st Team All-Tournament selection. As a highlight of Ainsley’s senior year, she was chosen to represent the North in the Mississippi Association of Coaches North/South All-Star Volleyball game where she won the Most Valuable Player for the North.
Equestrian
Avery Langley – Oklahoma State University
Avery competes in Western Horsemanship. She is the first Oxford High School student to commit to a D1 equestrian team.

- Youth Hunter Under Saddle- Circuit Champion at Tulsa Holiday circuit
- Youth Western Riding Champion at Las Vegas Silver Dollar circuit
- Numerous All Around and reserve finishes at top ten national shows
- The Final Four Showmanship at the National Championship
Football
Stratton Smith – Northwest MS Community College
During Stratton’s time on the Charger offensive line, he helped pave the way for two 1,000-yard rushers — John Meagher in 2019 and Roman Gregory in 2021. Stratton was named to the All-Region team three times and the All-State team twice. Stratton was a member of the OHS Football Leadership Council in 2020 and 2021 and was named a team captain for the 2021 season. Following his senior season, Stratton was selected to represent OHS in the prestigious Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game.
E.J. Wadley – Itawamba Community College
E.J. finished his career at Oxford with 207 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 6 fumbles. E.J. was named to the All Region Team twice during his Charger career. In 2021, E.J. helped seal an exciting playoff win at South Panola with a 4th-quarter interception. E.J. was a member of the OHS Football Leadership Council in 2020 and 2021
Keegan Wilfawn – Northeast MS Community College
Keegan finished his OHS career with 202 tackles, including 32 tackles for loss. Keegan also tallied 1 interception and 3 fumble recoveries during his Charger career. Keegan served as a member of the OHS Football Leadership Council in 2020 and 2021 and was named a team captain for the 2021 season. Following his senior season, Keegan was selected to represent OHS in the prestigious Bernard Blackwell All-Star Game.
Soccer
Junior Sandoval – Northwest MS Community College
Junior is a 3-year starter for the Charger soccer team as a forward. He was selected this year as a captain for the charger soccer team and was also selected as an all-district member last season as a junior.
Junior has a career of 43 goals scored and 32 assists. Junior's major impact comes from the pace at which he plays the game—full speed. Junior inspires his teammates through his work ethic and infectious attitude. He truly embodies what it means to be an Oxford Charger.
