OHS Athletes Sign Letters of Intent
Oxford, Mississippi (November 13, 2019) — Five student-athletes at Oxford High School signed national letters of intent with their prospective colleges. Oxford School District Athletics held a Fall Signing Day on November 13, 2019.
Baseball:
Sam Bianco is a 4-year starter for the baseball team (starter since he was a freshman). Signed with the University of Louisiana (head coach Matt Deggs). Over his first 3 years, he has played in 103 games with a .370 batting average, .478 on-base percentage, 52 RBIs, 120 runs scored, 71 stolen bases on 74 attempts.
Owen Bruce signed with Northwest Mississippi Community College (head coach Mark Carson). He has played in 18 games, in which he has pitched in 13 of those. On the mound, he has a 9-0 record, 8 of those coming last year as a junior. He's thrown 56 innings, struck out 55 batters, and has a 1.88 career Earned Run Average.
Girls Soccer:
Kathleen Myers signed her national letter of intent with Southeastern Louisiana. Kathleen came to us as a junior from Jackson Prep. Last season she started in 20 games, she scored 10 goals and had 8 assists, and she was voted to the All-District team.
This year she was voted as a team captain by her teammates, has started in the first 3 games, is currently leading the team in goals with 6 and has 3 assists.
Maria Jones signed her national letter of intent with Itawamba Community College. Maria is a lifelong Oxonian and has been with the girls' soccer program since middle school.
She became a starter as a freshman and has started over 60 games for the Chargers. Where she anchors our defense. She was apart of the last state championship her freshman year. She has been voted all-district 3 teams and was the defensive MVP last season as a junior.
This year she was voted as a team captain by her teammates and has started and played every minute of our first 3 games.
Cross Country:
Walter Johnson signed with the University of North Alabama for track and cross country. Walt is a 2-time All-State Performer in Cross Country, 2-time All-State Performer in Track, and a School Record Holder in the 5K with a time of 15:20.
