Oxford Middle School receives Attendance Award from Mississippi Lieutenant Governor
Oxford, Mississippi (October 21, 2024) — Oxford School District is proud to recognize Oxford Middle School for receiving the esteemed Attendance Award from Mississippi Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann for outstanding attendance rates in the 2023-2024 school year.
This award was only given to schools that achieved a chronic absenteeism rate of less than 15%. Oxford Middle School (OMS) was just one of 175 schools from across the state to receive this honor.
“Receiving the Lt. Governor’s Attendance Award is undoubtedly an outstanding achievement to celebrate,” said Oxford Middle School Principal Jeff Clay. “We are very proud of our students, parents, faculty, and staff for prioritizing attendance.”
What is Chronic Absenteeism?
According to the Mississippi Department of Education: “A student who misses 10% or more of their school days, which averages to just two days a month, for any reason, is considered chronically absent.”
