Oxford High School Alumni Win Silver in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games

Oxford, Mississippi (August 14, 2024) — Two Oxford High School alumni recently showcased their talent on the world stage at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Former high school state champions Sam Kendricks (Class of 2011) and Shelby McEwen (Class of 2015) have achieved remarkable success in the 2024 Olympics! Both Sam and Shelby won silver medals in their respective sports: Sam in men’s pole vault and Shelby in men’s high jump.

“It is so awesome to have not one, but two former Chargers earning silver medals and competing at the highest level in the sport,” said Oxford School District’s Cross Country and Track Coach, Chris Patton. “Both Sam and Shelby were very hard workers with great attitudes, and I am so happy that they represented us so well.”

Oxford School District’s Portrait of a Graduate is a vision for our students to become effective communicators, culturally aware, ethical, critical thinkers, creative thinkers, resilient, personally responsible, and active citizens. We take great joy in knowing that our alumni continue to reflect these values, regardless of where their lives may lead.

The Oxford School District is so proud of Sam and Shelby! We wish them all the best in their future endeavors, both on and off the track and field.
