Oxford High School’s Advanced Placement Program Continues to Flourish and Break School Record
Oxford, Mississippi (August 5, 2024) — Oxford High School is proud to report another successful year of Advanced Placement (AP) test scores! During the 2023-2024 school year, a total of 289 students participated in AP exams, with 512 exams completed overall.
Remarkably, 82% of our AP students scored 3 or higher – the highest on record (2012) at Oxford High School. In addition, we had 100 students earn the title of AP Scholar, marking the highest number in the past decade. Furthermore, the average scores on 19 out of 21 exams surpassed both state and global averages, showcasing the exceptional dedication of our students and teachers.
“I am very proud of our teachers and students. We have opened the doors of access to our AP classes, increasing the number of students who are participating,” said Oxford High School Principal Dr. Dana Bullard. “Usually, when that occurs, the percentage of students who score at a 3 or above decreases for a year or two. Oxford High School increased both the number of students who participated in AP classes and the percentage of students who score 3 and above on the exams. Again, this is a result of great teaching and increased student interest. I am very proud.”
Additionally, several teachers achieved an outstanding 100% passage rate on AP test scores for their students, including the following: Chemistry with Ms. Amy Rosen; European History with Ms. Sugi Wiltcher; Music Theory with Mr. Thomas Ardrey; Spanish with Mr. Scotty Jimenez; and US History with Mr. Jon Barnett.
The exceptional AP test results achieved by our students highlight the hard work and dedication of our teachers. Their unwavering commitment to excellence has been crucial in driving this remarkable success.
Congratulations to all the OHS students who participated in the AP program for their remarkable achievements and exceptional test scores! We wish the best of luck to all students and staff at OHS for another successful year.
