Oxford, Mississippi (November 28, 2023) — Oxford School District’s Dr. Steve Hurdle has been named the district’s new Chief of Operations. Hurdle is the successor to current OSD Chief of Operations, Colonel Doug Cromwell, who is retiring in December 2023. When Cromwell announced his decision to retire in October, the School Board of Trustees began a search process to find his replacement.
“Having worked in the Oxford School District for over ten years now, I am honored to continue to serve and take on the new role as Chief of Operations,” said Hurdle.
The district’s major systems, such as facilities, transportation, child nutrition, and technology, are under the command of the Chief of Operations.
Dr. Hurdle taught Construction Technology for 7 years and served as an assistant principal and principal at Independence High School before coming to Oxford in 2013 to serve as the founding principal of Oxford Intermediate School. In 2019 he became the first Director of Career and Technical Education for the Oxford School District where he led the newly formed Department of College and Career Readiness. He is the proud husband of the 2017 OSD employee of the year, Lynndy (now retired) and the proud dad of Oxford High School senior Ella Beth.
Dr. Hurdle is a native of Oxford and Lafayette County and a graduate of Lafayette High School and the University of Mississippi. He earned a B.A. in Recreation, an M.A. in Educational Leadership, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from The University of Mississippi and has served in education since 2004.
