Seniors Earn Associate Degrees from Northwest Mississippi Community College
Oxford, Mississippi (May 18, 2023) — During a special ceremony on May 4, sixteen Oxford High School students were recognized for obtaining associate degrees through Northwest Mississippi Community College's Scholastic Institute program. In partnership with Oxford High School, NWMCC's Scholastic Institute offers students the unique opportunity to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an associate degree during the last two years of high school.
Students who qualify can enroll in dual credit courses beginning their Junior year. They can earn up to 60 hours of transferable college credit to universities while participating in college clubs and activities and have access to student services, including transfer advising. To be accepted into the program, students must be a Junior in good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above, meet the eligibility criteria for dual credit/dual enrollment, must submit an unconditional letter of recommendation from their high school principal or counselor, and must display the necessary responsibility and maturity to manage the independent nature of a college environment.
