Plans for Returning to Campus

Dear OSD Parents and Staff,

We are soon entering a new school year where everyone, including myself, is hoping for a traditional student experience. COVID-19 has stolen a sense of normalcy for too long and we are all ready to move forward.

Many parents have been asking about the district's plans for returning to school in August. In the coming days, I will have an outline of procedures that will be in place on our campuses. At the June board meeting, I made the recommendation of making face masks optional. We have not received updated guidance from the CDC or the MS Department of Health, and we may not. Therefore, I have been in touch with other districts such as Madison Central, Desoto County, Biloxi, Tupelo, New Albany, Lafayette, and South Panola to understand their plans for face coverings, as well as how they plan to handle positive cases and quarantines. Thank you for your patience as we finalize these plans, as we do not want to act prematurely.

The top priority remains- we will do what is necessary to keep our students and staff safe and keep our schools operating on a normal schedule.

Sincerely,
Bradley Roberson
Superintendent
