Superintendent Announces Retirement
Superintendent Brian Harvey
Oxford, Mississippi (November 19, 2020) — Superintendent Brian Harvey announced his plans for retirement at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Harvey has worked in the Oxford School District as a teacher, coach, and administrator for 26 years. In October, the OSD Board of Trustees renewed Harvey's contract for three more years.
“I feel very fortunate to retire at the age of 48 years old. I have a lot of time left to do something new, I am not sure what that is just yet, but the time is right and I am looking forward to more time with my family. I want to thank board members, present and past, it has truly been a wonderful time. I am appreciative of the support I have received over the last 9 years as superintendent. I have worked with some of the finest professionals who are dedicated and passionate about educating children. Oxford is home and always will be.”
Board President, Ray Hill, extended his appreciation for Harvey's dedication to the district. “We would not be where we are without you. The duty now falls on the board to fill your shoes. We will meet in December to discuss our plans for moving forward. Obviously, we would like to move quickly and get the next person in place sooner rather than later. We will keep the community apprised of those efforts and remain transparent in the process.”
Harvey finished with “I have always told my children and players that I've coached to leave a place better than you found it- and I believe I have done that. In my nine years as Superintendent, some of the areas I am passionate about have come to fruition- our PreK program and CTE program. I have seen this district achieve so much in my time here.”
Harvey will serve in his role as superintendent through June 30, 2021.
