Oxford, Mississippi (October 8, 2019) — An Oxford Intermediate School science teacher, Jackie Mulkey, has been selected to receive the 2019 Outstanding Elementary Science Teacher Award by the Mississippi Science Teacher’s Association (MSTA).
Mulkey teaches 5th-grade science and has taught in the Oxford School District for fourteen years. She is motivated by the kids' curiosity when they explore new things about science- "I love it when they have their a-ha moment. Anything and everything is science, " says Mulkey.
"This award means a great deal to me. Science is a very overlooked subject in elementary school. I love science I want to bring awareness to teaching science in all grades, not just the tested ones." Mulkey will be recognized at the Annual Convention of the Association, to be held October 27-29, 2019 at the Golden Nugget in Biloxi, Mississippi. In addition, Mulkey will be a featured speaker at the 2020 MSTA Convention.
The Mississippi Science Teachers Association is a non-profit organization that seeks to connect teachers with valued information and opportunities.
