Oxford, Mississippi (April 20, 2017)—Swayze Elliott is one of 16 seniors from across the state who has been selected as a Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete for 2017. The honorees—one boy and one girl from high schools in each of the MHSAA’s eight geographic districts—were chosen for their academic accomplishments as well as their participation in high school athletics and extracurricular activities.
Each scholar-athlete winner receives a $1,500 college scholarship through the support of MHSAA partners like BankPlus, Mississippi Sports Medicine, C Spire, Polk’s Meat Products, Adams & Reese Law Firm and the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
Over the 22 year history of the award, more than $520,000 has been awarded to MHSAA scholar-athletes. Elliott and other scholar-athletes were honored in Jackson during the 22nd annual banquet on April 10.
