Hours of Operation

Charger After School operates from the time participants are released from school until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Our mission is to create a dynamic after-school program that fosters academic success, personal growth, and a balanced combination of recreation and instruction. By offering engaging activities, supportive tutoring, and enrichment opportunities, we will empower students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to discover their passions, build meaningful connections and relationships, and reach their full potential.

Enrichment: The program seeks to offer enrichment opportunities that go beyond the regular curriculum, including hands-on learning activities, arts and crafts, and other learning experiences. These activities will help students discover new interests and develop a broad range of interests and skills.

Physical Activity: Incorporating recreational activities and structured play will not only improve health, it will also enhance mood, concentration, and social skills.

Parents may register their students during open enrollment using the link provided. After open enrollment, parents will be placed on a waiting list for the next available spot.

The Charger After School fee is $200 MONTHLY. Families who qualify for free or reduced lunch will pay a reduced rate of $150 per month. Fees are due on the first of each month. The monthly amount should be paid through the student’s PowerSchool account. Any monthly fee paid after the 10th of the month will be charged a $25 late fee. If the monthly fee is not paid by the 15th of the month, your child’s enrollment in the after-care program may be suspended or terminated.

When children enroll in the after-care program, the site provides the time, space, staff, and provisions for each child, whether the child attends or not. The monthly fee will be charged in full regardless of how many days the child attends. Fees are not refundable if a child is suspended/expelled from our program.

If a parent would like to withdraw their child from the program, he or she will need to provide written documentation to the After School site coordinator before the first day of the month in order to avoid the monthly fee being assigned to their student’s PowerSchool account. Fees are nonrefundable if a student withdraws before the end of the month.

Children must be picked up by 5:30 p.m., which is the closing time of each site. If an emergency arises, and you are unable to reach the site by 5:30 p.m., please contact your site coordinator or to let him/her know when you will arrive.

Each center will follow these guidelines in response to a late pick-up:

1. If the family is late for pickup, immediately at 5:30 p.m. staff will try to call the family to ensure that someone is on the way to pick up the child. If the family is not reachable, staff will notify emergency contacts and ask for pick up.
2. The following structure will be used regarding late pickup:
   1. First time late: The site staff will reinforce the closing time, document the late pickup in the child’s records, and give the family a copy of the late policy guidelines.
   2. Second time late: The site coordinator will notify the director and a late fee* will be charged to the student’s PowerSchool account. The site staff will reinforce the closing time, document the late pickup in the child’s records, and give the family a copy of the late policy guidelines.
      • *The late fee referenced above is $1 for every minute the parent is late with a $10 minimum.
   3. Third time late: The site coordinator will notify the director and a late fee* will be charged to the student’s account. The site staff will notify the after-school director for next steps which could include suspension or termination of care.

3. If the parent fails to contact the after-school site and emergency contacts cannot be reached within 30 minutes of closing time, the staff is required to notify the DCS and school resource officer.

Student Badges: Students must have their badges with them daily. These badges are essential for the sign-out process.

Parent/Guardian Identification: Parents or authorized designee must present a valid driver's license or state-issued ID when picking up students.

Authorized Pick-Up: Students will only be released to individuals whose names are listed on the official pick-up list. Ensure that your pick-up list is up-to-date to avoid any delays.

Charger After School sites will provide child care on 60% days that are scheduled in advance by the school district according to the academic calendar. The after-school program will remain open until 5:30 p.m.

In case of inclement weather or an emergency when the school closes during normal operational hours, Charger After School will not provide child care. Parents will be notified of the closure and will need to make arrangements for their child’s pick-up.

Creating a safe environment is our top priority at all four Charger After School sites. We’re committed to fostering a safe space and take all precautions so that every child feels safe. We will follow our schools’ safety plans in case of an emergency. Safety plans will be located at each site.

We work very hard to anticipate and prevent injuries. If your child is injured, we will:

• Administer Band-Aids and comfort in large doses for small hurts (minor cuts, scrapes, and bumps)
• Contact you or your emergency contact if any injury may require medical attention, including bee stings, moderate cuts, sprains, and injuries to joints or possible fractures. You may then decide how you would like to proceed.
• Secure medical treatment immediately if a parent or emergency contact cannot be reached or if the injury warrants fast action. OSD reserves the right to contact emergency care.

Students who are returned to school and placed in after-care because the bus brings them back to school due to no parent being at home to receive them will face the following consequences:

• First time returned: Parent will be notified of the policy and receive a warning.
• Second time returned: Parent will be reminded of the policy and a $15 fee will be assessed to the child’s PowerSchool account.
• Third time returned: Parent will be charged $1 for each minute that their child attends after school with a minimum fee of $15. The fee will be assessed to the child’s PowerSchool account.

Due Process: Students shall be afforded due process rights. This includes the right to (1) be informed of conduct which would result in disciplinary action against the student; (2) notice of the rule violation; (3) explanation of the evidence supporting the charge including but not limited to, staff or student corroboration and/or camera footage; (4) an opportunity to present the student’s side of the story; (5) a penalty that is proportionate to the violation.

Bullying

Definition: Physical, verbal, written, or electronic conduct, directed toward a student that is: 1) Unwanted, 2) Repeated, and 3) Involves an imbalance of power. These actions are so pervasive, severe, and objectively offensive, that they: 1) have the purpose of creating or resulting in an intimidating, hostile, or offensive academic environment, or 2) have the purpose or effect of substantially or unreasonably interfering with a student’s academic performance, which deprives the student access to educational opportunities.

Harassment

Additional Infractions

Accessory: Students who cause someone else to commit a violation, help in the commission of a violation, or encourages, advises, or acts with another to commit a violation will be disciplined as if they committed the violation themselves.

Transportation behavior: While on district-provided transportation (including, but not limited to a bus or cab), students shall adhere to the same behavior expectations, standards, and consequences as at school. Consequences will be consistent with the violation committed, which may include suspension of riding privileges.

Infractions off school grounds: Activities that occur outside the school environment but substantially disturb the school environment are subject to the consequences listed in this matrix.

Consequence Definitions

Timeout: Discipline which requires students to serve timeout, during or after school.

Temporary Suspension: Temporary denial to a student by the After School Director and/or Director of Student Development.

Suspension: Denial of the program by the After School Director and/or Director of Student Development.

Where appropriate, the following additional interventions may be added to any violation:

• Apology: Written or verbal statement of, acknowledgment of, and accountability for, the offense.
• Law enforcement referral: When appropriate students will be referred to the police for violations that are also violations of city, state, or federal laws.
• Group Reassignment: Reassignment of a student to a new group because of student misbehavior.
• Restitution: When appropriate, students will reimburse the school or others for financial damages.
• Restrictions: Removal of student privileges.
• Student conference: A meeting with administration and/or a counselor or team.
• Parent conference: A meeting with administration.
• Student contract: A written plan or agreement to address discipline concerns.
• Warning: Discussion and plan for change.
