Library Assistant
Oxford High School

Mr. Howington is delightful to work with.  He has a great attitude, is very helpful to the students and teachers, and works very hard to help make the OHS Library run smoothly.

If you’ve been to the OHS library this year, you’ve probably met library assistant Tim Howington. Even though it’s Howington’s first year at the high school, he has become librarian Jolee Hussey’s right hand man.

“I do what Mrs. Hussey tells me to do,” Howington said, showing his willingness to work at whatever job needs doing, from shelving books to working with students.

Howington served 28 years in the Navy and commanded the Ole Miss ROTC for three years. During that time he taught Ethics in Leadership, and it was that teaching experience that helped him realize he enjoyed talking with and helping students. He especially enjoys helping high school students solve problems and work through issues. When he was in the Navy, Howington said the majority of the people he worked with and taught were 18, 19, and 20-year-olds, so he feels comfortable working with high school students, particularly when they talk about their futures.

“I spent a lot of time in the Navy relating to young people as a leader, mentor, and role model. I spent a lot of time motivating them,” Howington said. And, at his job here at OHS, he gets to use a lot of that experience relating to the high schoolers.

“I want to help high schoolers,” Howington said. “That’s what I enjoy about being here.”
