Tracy Shawn
School Nurse
Oxford High School

You may see her making rounds to give flu shots. Or you may find her giving out medications in her new office. You may even see her pushing a wheel chair down the hall. Wherever she is, Nurse Tracy Shawn will have a smile on her face as she goes about her job of taking care of the students, faculty and staff at Oxford High School.

In addition to being the school nurse, Nurse Shawn is the District RN and Health Educator. She has been at OHS for five years, but before that spent 17 years in high-tech one-on-one nursing jobs in St. Louis and Chicago in Intensive Care Units, Post Anesthesia Care Units, and High Risk Labor and Delivery Units. But, the school setting is where Nurse Shawn feels she belongs.

"You have no idea how much these students have blessed me," Nurse Shawn said.

When she's not in the building nursing someone back to health, Nurse Shawn is likely to be enjoying her hobby of photography, snapping photos of the students on the sidelines at football or soccer game, from the deck at a swim meet, or behind the curtain in the theater. Then, she graciously gives the pictures away to the students, to coaches, and to the yearbook

"She is invaluable," Principal Bill Hovious said. "Not only does she take care of the nursing jobs, but she does so much more. She's just an all-around asset to our school."

Bill Hovious, Principal

“I love my students and co-workers. I get to be with some of the most incredible people everyday. As a nurse, I feel this setting is an opportunity of a lifetime to really make a difference in some of the lives of those around me. There is a reason God has placed me here, and I want to make the most of it.”
