Weather Updates

NOTE: We will keep this post updated as best we can, but weather-related internet outages have limited our ability to do so in a timely manner. For the time being, please follow the Oxford School District Facebook page for the most current news and information.
February 5, 2026 – February After-School Fees
As our community continues to recover from the recent ice storm, we remain mindful of the challenges many of our families are facing.
Due to the week of school missed in February and recognizing that resources may be better used to support recovery efforts at home, the Oxford School District will NOT charge after-school care fees for the month of February.
We hope this small step provides some relief during this time. Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and partnership as we support one another through recovery.
February 4, 2026 – School Resumes February 9
We are looking forward to welcoming our students back to school on Monday, February 9.
We know the recent ice storm created significant challenges for many families in our community, and recovery is still ongoing for some. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and support as we worked to ensure our schools were ready to safely reopen.
As always, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priorities. If your family is still facing storm-related challenges, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's school so we can provide support where possible.
We are excited to see our students and begin moving back into our regular routines together.
February 2, 2026 – Update from Superintendent Roberson
January 30, 2026 – Athletics and Activities Update
Over the past few days, we have received many questions regarding athletics and other school-related activities as we continue to recover from the impact of the recent ice storm. We appreciate your patience and want to provide clarity as we work through these adjustments together.
Due to the ongoing impact from the ice storm and the fact that students will not be returning to school until at least Monday, February 9, we will need to make some adjustments to athletic and activity schedules for next week. We also want families to know that some athletic and activity schedules are governed by the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) and other state organizations and are beyond the district’s control. As a result, flexibility is necessary even while we are out of school. At the same time, these opportunities can provide a sense of normalcy for our students, should they and their families choose to participate.
Beginning Monday, February 2, teams and groups may offer open gyms or voluntary practices for students who are in town and whose families feel comfortable with local travel. No practices or activities will take place prior to Monday, February 2.
We fully recognize that many families in our community are still without heat, power, or water as a result of the storm. Some families may need to remain out of town to access these basic necessities. If your student is unable to attend any voluntary practice or activity because your family is out of town or managing storm-related challenges, that is completely understandable and will not impact playing time or participation in any way.
Beginning Tuesday, teams or groups that are scheduled for away events may participate in those events as planned. Again, if your family is still out of town due to ongoing storm-related issues, we completely understand. Thursday, February 5, will be the first day we are able to host home athletic events.
Our priority continues to be the safety, well-being, and peace of mind of our students and families. Thank you for your flexibility, patience, and understanding as we continue to navigate recovery from the ice storm together.
January 29, 2026 – Plans on Returning to School
Thank you for your continued patience and support as our community recovers from the recent ice storm. We know many families and staff members are still dealing with power and water outages, property damage, and disruptions to daily routines.
After careful consideration and daily coordination with city leaders, utility providers, and our district operations team, we are planning a phased, slow start to reopening schools to ensure a safe and smooth return for everyone.
Our current plan is as follows:
- SOME Operational staff will return two days prior to students to allow time for campus preparation, transportation readiness, food service setup, and operational checks. We will provide more details to staff early next week.
- Certified staff will return one day prior to students to prepare classrooms, review plans, and support a strong instructional restart.
- Students will not return before Monday, February 9. We will continue meeting daily to determine whether a student return on Monday, February 9, is possible.
This phased approach allows us to:
- Ensure facilities are fully ready
- Confirm transportation routes are safe and operational
- Support staff who may still be facing storm-related challenges
- Provide a stable and welcoming environment for students on their first day back
Please know that we understand everyone’s situation is different. We encourage families and staff to continue prioritizing safety, health, and well-being as recovery continues.
We will continue to monitor conditions across our community and communicate updates as needed. Thank you for your grace, resilience, and care for one another during this time. We look forward to welcoming our Charger family back when conditions allow us to do so safely.
