OSD Safety Coordinator Writes Children’s Book about Service, Safety and Community

Oxford, Mississippi — Oxford School District is proud to recognize OSD District Safety Coordinator Hardie Meeks, Jr., who recently wrote a children’s book titled Officer Marcus and Officer Hillary Serving the Community.

The story follows two police officers in Oxford, Mississippi, Officer Marcus and Officer Hillary, through a day of helping and serving others. This story has an especially meaningful local connection, with Officer Marcus inspired by Oxford Middle School’s Student Resource Officer, Corporal Marcus Wilson.

Along the way, Officer Marcus and Officer Hillary show that serving the community often means more than people might expect from officers, from helping a family with a flat tire to speaking to a group of kids at the Boys and Girls Club.

Throughout these everyday moments, the story highlights what it means to help others and treat people with respect, regardless of what their differences may be.

Mr. Meeks explained, The message to every child who reads this book is ‘Be kind. Help others. Do what is right. That’s how you can serve your community, too.’

As OSD’s District Safety Coordinator, Mr. Meeks works diligently to create a safe school environment for students and staff. Through Officer Marcus and Officer Hillary Serving the Community, he extends those same values of safety, service, and respect to young readers in the community.
