DDES Welcomes FNB Oxford Guests for a Classroom Lesson About Money

Oxford, Mississippi — Students in Ashleigh Ferrell’s second grade reading class at Della Davidson Elementary School (DDES) recently welcomed two guests from First National Bank (FNB) Oxford as part of the bank’s A Banker in Every Classroom outreach. The visit introduced students to the basics of financial literacy through simple and engaging lessons.
Two team members from FNB Oxford, Kathryn Strange and Jacob Rousseau, Oxford High School alumnus, spent time with students exploring the differences between needs and wants. They led a hands-on activity where students sorted examples into each category and shared kid-friendly ways people can save money for the future.
I hope my students gained a deeper understanding of financial responsibility and the value of making thoughtful choices. Through this experience, students learned to distinguish between wants and needs in a meaningful, real world context,
Ms. Ferrell said. They also began to recognize the importance of saving money to reach their goals, no matter how big or small. Most importantly, I hope they walk away understanding that responsible decision-making can help them achieve their dreams in the future.
Special thanks to FNB Oxford for speaking to some of our second graders! We are grateful for community partners who continually support our students – especially alumni like Rousseau, who once walked these same halls.
