Academic Electives
Band
An academic elective for students who wish to continue participation in instrumental music with emphasis on large group performances and festivals.
Choir
A performance-based elective course in choral music, open to seventh and eighth graders. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in the use of basic music vocabulary including terms, signs, and symbols of music notation. They will learn to sing, with expression and technical accuracy, a varied repertoire of vocal literature. They will perform music representing diverse genres, cultures, styles, and historical periods. Students are required to participate in all concerts including district and invitational festivals for adjudication.
Orchestra
Orchestra is a performance-based class which includes violin, viola, cello, and string bass students. We follow the National Association for Music Education's Course of String Study and Standards. Orchestra students perform music from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods, but we also include "fiddle" tunes and popular music.
Theater
The study of theater using intellectual as well as creative studies. The student will gain an introductory level of knowledge of directing, technology, stage management, acting, script development, criticism, and theater history.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts is an elective course for students who would like to explore the world around them using 2-Dimenisonal and 3-Dimensional art applications.
