Welcome to OES!

  • Hello! Welcome to my page! My name is LeToya McClay and I am the Behavior Specialist for Oxford Elementary School. My role is to serve as a support for the staff to encourage and maintain positive behaviors in the classroom and during special activities.

Once a student’s needs are brought to my attention, the next step is to observe their behaviors in various settings to identify any causes/triggers to the less desired behaviors. Through teacher’s report, observation, and any documentation provided, a targeted behavior plan is completed to help with reducing/eliminating the negative behaviors.

With that being said, the overall goal of the behavior plan is to introduce and encourage more positive behaviors to aid in the student’s success. There is no “one size fits all” model to behavior modification, so there are various interventions that can be used based on the specific needs of the student as well as the behavior being addressed.

There is a certain taboo that seems to come along with types of students that I work with, which is possibly due to the lack of information available about the roles of a Behavior Specialist. In addition to those students who may need extra support, I also incorporate working with those students who could serve as mentors to increase overall positivity and success at OES.

All students can benefit from behavior modification, as our school wide goal is to SOAR to success. Simple daily encouragement through smiles, hugs, and positive words have shown to be successful with a large number of our students.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my role at OES!
