Oxford Intermediate School is committed to creating caring citizens through the school’s Creating Character program and uses three guiding principles—connecting, caring and cultivating—to promote the school’s everyday heroes’ character education program. Every OIS student is assigned a mentor, who is a staff member and a resource for fifth and sixth graders. Hero Moments are scheduled twice a month with student-mentor groups. Topics, such as bullying, setting goals, social media, nutrition/fitness, and building positive relationships, are discussed.
