Graduation Requirements
(Reference: Board Policy IHF - Graduation Requirements)
It is the policy of the Oxford School District that a student earn 24 Carnegie units prior to graduation. Of those Carnegie unit credits a maximum of four (4) Carnegie units may be earned during summer school programs. Enrollment in online courses must have prior approval granted by the principal. Every student, except juniors and seniors who earn the early dismissal privilege, must be enrolled in at least 5 classes per semester.
Juniors who earn early dismissal privilege by meeting the following standards must be participants in Oxford School District's Scholastic Institute and be enrolled in a minimum of 15 semester hours of dual credit coursework.
Seniors who earn early dismissal privilege by meeting the following standards must be enrolled in a minimum of 2 class periods per semester excluding athletics, or be enrolled in a district sponsored career internship program.
For early release, students must have met Mississippi Institution of Higher Learning (MS IHL) and Community College readiness benchmarks (ACT sub scores 17 English and 19 Math or SAT equivalency) or earned a Silver level on ACT Work Keys. Alternately, a student must meet ALL of the following:
- Have a 2.5 GPA
- Passed or met all MAAP assessments requirements for graduation
- On track to meet diploma requirements
- Concurrently enrolled in Essentials for College Math and/or Essentials for College Literacy
It will be the policy of this district that a graduating student earn at least two of the last four Carnegie units in residence at Oxford High School (including virtual school courses). Two units of credit can be earned by enrolling in four (4) semester courses.
The school district restricts the participation in formal graduation ceremonies to those senior students who have successfully completed prescribed secondary school graduating requirements.
Any student who completes the minimum graduation requirements specified in this policy is eligible to receive a diploma from Oxford High School.

Graduation Options for Students with a Significant Cognitive Disability
Oxford School District students with a significant cognitive disability ruling (SCD) and their parents/guardians shall be given the option of the student working toward a traditional high school diploma, an alternate diploma or a certificate of attendance. This decision will be considered at the student’s IEP meeting prior to his/her entering the ninth grade. The IEP shall thereafter reflect the option selected by the IEP committee, to include the parents and the student with a SCD ruling and shall specify whether the student is seeking a traditional high school diploma, an alternate diploma or a certificate of attendance. If there is a need for change, the decision may be reversed through the IEP Committee process. Students who choose the traditional high school diploma will be required to follow the graduation requirements for students in regular education. Students who choose the alternate diploma will be required to complete the criteria as designated in the alternate diploma curriculum and as approved by the State Board of Education. Students who choose the certificate of attendance will be required to complete the provisions taken from a special education curriculum that will be listed in the Individual Education Program. Every student who completes an approved course of study by or before age twenty-one will receive a traditional high school diploma, an alternate diploma or a certificate of attendance and will be permitted to participate in graduation ceremonies.
