Community Workforce Development

Work-based Learning (WBL) connects classroom instruction with real-world work experiences. It allows students to apply academic and technical skills in authentic job settings. Students may take WBL their junior and/or senior years, and it can take the place of a CCR credit. Students may only have two credits of WBL.

A Career Internship provides seniors with real-world opportunities during the school day. Students may choose an internship for credit through Work-Based Learning or for experience. Students who are interested in an internship will interview in the spring to be placed the following school year. Students spend part of their school day working in a local business, clinic, government office, or organization that aligns with their career interests. Students may earn high school credit while developing professional skills and gaining firsthand exposure to the workplace.

Job Shadowing is a short-term, hands-on learning experience where a senior observes a professional in their workplace to understand what a career is really like.

An Industry Partner is a business, organization, or professional that collaborates with the Oxford School District to help students connect classroom learning to real-world careers. If you are interested in becoming an industry partner, contact Mary Martha Crowe at mcrowe@oxfordsd.org.

A Career and Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Board is a group of local industry professionals, educators, and community members who provide guidance and support to CTE programs. Their role is to ensure what students learn in the classroom matches current workforce needs. Advisory board members offer feedback on curriculum, help identify equipment or training needs, and create opportunities for internships, job shadowing, and industry certifications. By partnering with schools, they help prepare students for success in college, careers, and the local economy.
