    4. Be prepared to answer income questions on the Free & Reduced-Price Meal Application.
Because this is a free program, consideration is given to financial need as demonstrated on the federal lunch application completed by a parent/guardian. Parents are not required to submit financial information if they do not wish to be prioritized for enrollment based on financial need. By submitting their financial snapshot on the lunch application, parents agree that they are reporting honest and accurate information stating: “I am aware that if I purposely give false information, I may be prosecuted under applicable State and Federal laws.” Federal law requires the district to verify a percentage of income information reported on the federal lunch application each year.
NOTE: In accordance with the Department's policy as provided in the Food and Nutrition Service publication Eligibility Manual for School Meals, “income,” as the term is used, means income before any deductions such as income taxes, Social Security taxes, insurance premiums, charitable contributions, and bonds.
