• Graduation Requirements (Board Policy IHF)

It is the policy of the Oxford School District that a student earn 24 Carnegie units prior to graduation. Of those Carnegie unit credits a maximum of four (4) Carnegie units may be earned during summer school programs. In addition to the four (4) Carnegie units earned through summer programs, a student may earn four (4) Carnegie units through the completion of approved online courses. Enrollment in online courses must have prior approval granted by the principal. Every student, except juniors and seniors who earn the early dismissal privilege, must be enrolled in at least 4 classes per semester.

Juniors who earn early dismissal privilege by meeting the following standards must be participants in Oxford School District's Scholastic Institute and be enrolled in a minimum of 15 semester hours of dual credit coursework.

Seniors who earn early dismissal privilege by meeting the following standards must be enrolled in a minimum of 2 class periods per semester excluding athletics.

For early release, students must have met Mississippi Institution of Higher Learning (MS IHL) and Community College readiness benchmarks (ACT sub scores 17 English and 19 Math or SAT equivalency) or earned a Silver level on ACT Work Keys. Alternately, a student must meet ALL of the following:

    • Have a 2.5 GPA
    • Passed or met all MAAP assessments requirements for graduation
    • On track to meet diploma requirements
    • Concurrently enrolled in Essentials for College Math and/or Essentials for College Literacy

It will be the policy of this district that a graduating student earn at least two of the last four Carnegie units in residence at Oxford High School (including virtual school courses). Two units of credit can be earned by enrolling in four (4) semester courses.

The school district restricts the participation in formal graduation ceremonies to those senior students who have successfully completed prescribed secondary school graduating requirements.

Any student who completes the minimum graduation requirements specified in this policy is eligible to receive a diploma from Oxford High School.
