The flowcharts below illustrate the order in which math courses may be taken. If you have any questions, please contact your school’s guidance office.

Oxford School District Math Pathways Overview
Students take Math 5.
After completing Math 5, students have the option to take either Math 6 or Math 6 Accelerated.
After completing Math 6 or Math 6 Accelerated, students have the option to take either Math 7 or Compacted Math 7.
If students complete Math 7, they will then take Math 8 (Pre-Algebra). If students complete Compacted Math 7, they will have the option to take either Math 8 (Pre-Algebra) or Compacted Math 8/Algebra 1.
If students complete Math 8 (Pre-Algebra), they can then take Algebra 1; if they previously completed Math 7 (not Compacted Math 7), then they also have the option of taking Foundations of Algebra & Algebra 1. If students complete Compacted Math 8/Algebra 1, they will then take Geometry.
After completing either Foundations of Algebra & Algebra 1 or Algebra 1, students will then take Geometry.
After completing Geometry, students will take Algebra 2.
After completing Algebra 2, students will take their choice of a Higher Math course.
NOTE – The following courses are credit-bearing courses for High School G.P.A.:
- Compacted Math 7
- Math 8 (Pre-Algebra)
- Compacted Math 8/Algebra 1
- Foundations of Algebra & Algebra 1
- Algebra 1
- Geometry
- Algebra 2
- Higher Math courses

Oxford School District Math Pathways for Grades 5-9
In 5th Grade, students take Math 5.
In 6th Grade, students take either Math 6 or Accelerated Math 6.
In 7th Grade, students take either Math 7 or Compacted Math 7.
If students took Math 7 the previous year, in 8th Grade, they will take Math 8 (Pre-Algebra). If students took Compacted Math 7 the previous year, in 8th Grade, they can take either Math 8 (Pre-Algebra) or Compacted Math 8 (Algebra 1).
If students took Math 8 (Pre-Algebra) the previous year, in 9th Grade, they can take either Algebra 1 or Foundations of Algebra/Algebra 1. If students took Compacted Math 8 (Algebra 1) the previous year, in 9th Grade, they can take Geometry.
Note – Credit-bearing course for High School G.P.A. are:
- Compacted Math 7
- Math 8
- Compacted Math 8

Oxford School District Math Pathways Grades 9-12
In 9th Grade, students take either Geometry, Algebra 1, or Foundations of Algebra/Algebra 1 (which one they take depends on what they took in 8th Grade).
If students took Algebra 1 or Foundations of Algebra/Algebra 1 the previous year, in 10th Grade, they will take Geometry. If they took Geometry the previous year, in 10th Grade they will take Algebra 2.
If students took Geometry the previous year, in 11th Grade they will take Algebra 2. If they took Algebra 2 the previous year, in 11th Grade, they will take a Higher Level Math Course.
In 12th Grade, students will take a Higher Level Math Course.

- A.P. Statistics
- A.P. Calculus A B
- A.P. Calculus B C
- Dual Enrollment (Juniors and Seniors only – must have a minimum score of 19 on the Math ACT):
