Charger Baseball Team History
The Oxford High School Baseball Program has a great history. The Charger Baseball team collected four 4A district titles in the nineties and added the fourth title this decade by winning the district title in 2009. The Chargers have added five 5A division titles in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and most recently 2017. The Oxford Baseball program also won its first state championship in 2005 after losing in its only other trip to the state finals in 1993. In 2011, the Chargers fell one game short of another state championship appearance after losing to Ridgeland in Game Three of the North-Half finals. In 2013, the Chargers advanced to the third round of the MHSAA 5A State Playoffs where they were defeated in three games by the Hernando Tigers. The 2014 team once again reached the finals of the North Half falling to eventual state champion New Hope in two games. The 2015 Chargers posted the best season in school history winning 35 games and finishing in the top 10 in the nation and #1 in Mississippi. The 2016 Chargers posted a 28-8 record and won the 2016 5A state championship. The 2017 Chargers once again reached the 5A State Finals only to come up one game short of an unprecedented back-to-back-to-back state championships. The 2018 season marked a new beginning for the baseball program as the Chargers entered 6A competition. The 2018 Chargers finshed with an overall record of 23-11 and another top 5 overall ranking in the state after bowing out of the playoffs in the North Half Championship series to eventual state champion Desoto Central. The 2019 Chargers will have to replace several key starters but look to build upon the tradition left behind by these young men.
