• Requirements for Volunteering in Athletics

    Before working with our schools’ athletic teams, volunteers and paraprofessionals must complete all of the steps in the guide below. Head coaches will work with you to gather all of the documentation and ensure that you meet the requirements to work with our student athletes. If you have any questions, please contact your team’s head coach; you may also email Athletic Director Mike Martin (mfmartin@oxfordsd.org) for assistance.

    Steps for Volunteers/Paraprofessionals to Work with OSD Athletic Teams:

    1. Read the OSD volunteer policy. Complete and submit an OSD Volunteer Application. You will be notified by email when your application is approved.
    2. Complete each of the following training courses:
      • Fundamentals of Coaching
        Cost: $75
        Register or sign in to the NFHS Learning Center website. After completing the course, send your certificate to your head coach and turn in your payment receipt to Heather Ormon (hsormon@oxfordsd.org) so you can be reimbursed for the cost after all courses are completed.
      • Concussion in Sports
        Cost: FREE
        Register or sign in to the NFHS Learning Center website. After completing the course, send your certificate to your head coach.
      • First Aid, Health and Safety
        Cost: $50
        Register or sign in to the NFHS Learning Center website. After completing the course, send your certificate to your head coach and turn in your payment receipt to Heather Ormon (hsormon@oxfordsd.org) so you can be reimbursed for the cost after all courses are completed.
      • S.T.A.R. Sportsmanship
        Cost: FREE
        Go to the STAR Sportsmanship website and select the “Coach Sign In” option. Enter either the high school code (STAR02449) or the middle school code (STAR02452) in the field provided. You will then be asked to verify your school. If your name is not listed, click REGISTER and follow the instructions from there to finish creating your account so you can take the course. After completing the course, send your certificate to your head coach.
      • CPR AED Training
        Cost: $25
        Register or sign in to the American Heart Association eLearning website. After completing the course, make a hard copy of your certificate and contact OSD Lead School Nurse Meg Hayden at mehayden@oxfordsd.org or (662) 234-1562. You must make an appointment with Nurse Hayden to complete the final requirements of the course. Be sure to turn in your payment receipt to Heather Ormon (hsormon@oxfordsd.org) so you can be reimbursed for the cost after all courses are completed.
      • Suicide Prevention Training
        Cost: FREE
        Send a copy of the certificate of completion to your head coach.
