    Major Jeremy Wheeler

Major Jeremy A. Wheeler was born into the Corps aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. The son of Master Sergeant Jerry E. Wheeler, he witnessed the Marine Corps’ comradery and unique esprit de corps as he was raised across (6) Marine Corps’ installations (MCB Camp Lejeune, MCAS Cherry Point, MCAS Yuma, MCAS Tustin, MCAS El Toro, and MCB Quantico). The influence of his father, and the countless Marines he encountered throughout his early life, instilled a fiery passion within his soul and inspired him to dream big. He knew from a very young age that he too, would one day proudly hold the coveted eagle, globe, and anchor.

Major Wheeler enlisted in the Marine Corps in early 1998 and became an aircrewman for Bell Helicopter’s UH-1N “Huey.” He was assigned to Camp Pendleton’s HMLA-369 (“Gunfighters”). While with the Gunfighters, he experienced an action-packed and exciting first six years of his career. From 1998 – 2004, Wheeler deployed (4) times to include (2) unit deployment programs to Okinawa, a post- 9/11 13th MEU (LHD-5/USS Bonhomme Richard) that took him into the mountains of Afghanistan for “Operation Anaconda” in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and a sixth-month tour in southern Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom I.

Throughout this amazing journey, he was meritoriously promoted to Corporal and Sergeant and then selected for Staff Sergeant as well as the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECEP). Upon graduation from the University of Colorado, and subsequent commissioning in 2007, Major Wheeler became a military police oficer and served tours in Okinawa, Japan; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Okinawa, Japan (again); and Camp Pendleton, California.

Additionally, he enjoyed an opportunity to serve as officer-in-charge of 3rd Battalion/3rd Marine’s police mentor team in Garmsir District, Helmand Province Afghanistan. He developed, directed, and supervised a dynamic Afghan police academy which successfully trained, equipped, and graduated (300) Afghan police officers in a period of (6) months.

He also served as Provost Marshal’s Office Operations Officer, Aide de Camp to Commanding General Marine Corps Installations - East, and Company Commander in Camp Lejeune. Following promotion to Major, he served as the Force Protection Officer with 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa, Japan, and the Provost Marshal’s Office Deputy Provost Marshal at Camp Pendleton.

Due to the Commandant’s Force Design initiative, and the elimination of active-duty Law Enforcement Battalions, Major Wheeler seized a unique opportunity to conduct a lateral move into the Communication Strategy & Operations (COMMSTRAT) field where he served as the Marine Forces Reserve Headquarters’ COMMSTRAT Operations Officer in New Orleans during his final tour on Active Duty.

This tour took him to exercises in Alaska, Brazil, Italy, and Colombia and culminated a humble career of adventure, travel, and leading Marines.  From deserts, to oceans, and jungles across the globe, as well as combat tours from the air and on the ground, Major Wheeler has proudly served in ‘any clime and place.’

He is happily married to Linh Uyen Tran Wheeler of Columbus, Georgia and they are the proud parents of beautiful nine-year-old, Brooklinh.

Major Wheeler’s awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (Gold Star), Navy Commendation Medal (2 Gold Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 Gold Stars), Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2 Bronze Stars), Military Outstanding Volunteerism Medal (Bronze Star)
