OMS Teen Leadership Silent Auction
Description
Oxford Middle School (OMS) Teen Leadership students will host a silent auction to benefit the Scott Center on Thursday, March 19, 2015, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Oxford Middle School Commons area. The free event gives the community a chance to bid on a variety of items donated from local businesses while supporting Oxford public school students.
Last year the student-led event raised $3,500 for the L.O.U. Boys and Girls Club. OMS students are hoping for a successful follow-up year so that they can help fellow school students at the Scott Center. The Scott Center is the Oxford School District’s special needs school serving the educational needs of area students.
Money raised from this year’s silent auction will directly purchase Scott Center wish list items, such as safety seats for bus transportation and an Apple compatible program to create communication boards for students.
Community members can bid on silent auction items ranging from lunch and dinner gift certificates, sporting and outdoor items, home goods and decor and student-designed pottery and art work. Each school year OMS Teen Leadership classes fulfill a community service project.
“This is a great event for our students to help other students within our school system,” said OMS Teen Leadership Sponsor Jill Knox. “They learn the value of hard work and commitment towards a cause. They are also helping their fellow students achieve academic success while they are in school, too.”
